Emir of Kuwait to attend Arab summit in Baghdad – amb.

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Ahmed al-Jabir al-Sabah will be in the forefront of leaders attending the Arab summit in Baghdad, according to Kuwaiti ambassador to Iraq on Saturday. “Iraq is capable of hosting the summit and Kuwait is ready to stretch a helping hand in all fields,” Ali al-Mo’min said during a meeting with local officials in the holy Shiite city of Karbala. Mo’min said that the Iraqi people was not involved in the invasion of Kuwait. “The invasion is solely blamed on the policies of the former regime,” he said, adding the Kuwaiti people and government supports Iraq and the Iraqis. The forthcoming Arab summit is expected to be hosted in Baghdad in March. Iraq had announced a large-scale plan to rehabilitate streets, buildings and five large hotels, four of them are listed on the Iraqi Stock Exchange (ISX) trading activities: Babel, Palestine, Baghdad and Ashtar. “We, as Arab nations, have to help Iraq render the summit a success as this summit would bring Iraq back to the Arab fold,” said Mo’min. He pointed out that there will be no preconditions on the part of Kuwait as far as finding remains of Kuwaitis is concerned. The Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations involve several outstanding issues, including the compensations to be afforded by Iraq as a result of the 1991 invasion of Kuwait, Kuwait’s position regarding Iraq’s exit from Chapter VII of the UN Charter, the demarcation of borders between the two neighboring countries and the remains of missing Kuwaitis during the Iraqi invasion. The holy Shiite city of Karbala lies 108 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (S)/SR 44
