Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Mohammed Eqbal, of the Wasat Alliance within the Iraqiya Slate described endorsing the General Amnesty law draft as “A chance to prove the seriousness of the government to achieve the reforms.”

In a press statement received by IraqiNews.com on Thursday, he said “The political blocs in the parliament, especially the IS and the Sadr Trend, are serious in endorsing the General Amnesty law draft as soon as possible in spite of the objection of the premier, Nouri al-Maliki,” noting that “This issue became a necessity and a real test for the seriousness of the government to achieve the reforms.”

‘Thousands of the prisoners are waiting to settle their cases where many of them have no judicial case and some spent four to five years according to vexatious case and victims of secret reporter,” he added, assuring that “Endorsing this law draft will eliminate these breaches and the violation to the human rights.”

He expressed his belief that “The obstacles of endorsing the General Amnesty law draft are many such as the fear of the government over disturbing the security situation,” he pointed out,” noting that “Such fears are not justified and endorsing this law draft will bring justice to those prisoners.”

“The hunger strike is a message to the government and the parliament to settle this issue which became as a group punishment,” he concluded.
