Final deal to share sovereign posts in Diwaniya – official

DIWANIYA / IraqiNews.com: A new deal was signed on Monday by three political blocs to share posts in the new civilian administration’s lineup in the province of al-Diwaniya, according to an official from the Dawlat al-Qanoon list. “The deal, signed by Dawlat al-Qanoon , the independent al-Ahrar (Liberals) bloc and Ibrahim al-Jaafari’s al-Islah (Reform) bloc, would see most key administrative and sovereign posts shared in the new civil administration,” Jubeir al-Juburi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Salem Hussein was named as Diwaniya’s governor, while the first deputy governor will be picked from the Dawa Party / Iraq Organization, second deputy governor will be from the al-Islah bloc and the deputy chairman of the provincial council from al-Ahrar ,” noted Juburi, who was named as chief of the local council in Diwaniya. The Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) bloc is led by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. He pointed out that the agreement will be final once it garners 15 out of total 28 votes. Earlier on Monday, a member of the provincial council had told IraqiNews.com that an agreement with Dawlat al-Qanoon was discarded because “they claim the Diwaniya deputy governor post and procrastinate over local council deputy chief post that should go to al-Fadila (Virtue) party”. The Dawlat al-Qanoon has obtained 11 seats, the Shahid al-Mihrab list five, the Iraqi National List three, al-Islah three, al-Fadila two, Islamic al-Walaa (Allegiance) Party two and al-Ahrar two out of a total 28 seats making the new Diwaniya provincial council. The province of Diwaniya lies 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (S)/SR 2
