Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Foreign Ministry announced that Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Mohammed Ali Al Hakeem, announced the accession of Iraq to the Comprehensive Nuclear Tests Ban Treaty to Head of the Treaties Section affiliated from the Legal Affairs Office, Santiago Villalpando.

A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry received by IraqiNews.com cited “During a celebration held at the United Nations headquarters, Hakim consigned Iraq’s instrument of accession to the CNTBT.”

It is worth mentioning that Iraq signed this treaty on August 19, 2008 and deposited the instrument of accession on September 26, 2013 after the approval of the Iraqi Parliament on it on October 9, 2012.

Iraq’s accession to this Treaty is an indication of Iraq’s credibility and orientations to work with the international community to serve the goals aiming at disarmament, non-proliferation, and to maintain international peace and security.
