Formal statistics: 28784 prisoners in Iraqi prisons

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Justice Ministry revealed that the prisoners in its prisons are (28784) prisoners according to the statistics of July, 2012.

In a press statement received by IraqiNews.com, the Justice Ministry cited “Among the prisoners there are (334) female prisoners that are did not face trial yet, whereas (550) female prisoners are convicted. On the other hand, the female juveniles that did not face trial are (6) and the convicted female juveniles are (7).”

“The ministry started to release (652) prisoners who had finished their period in prisons according to the judicial decisions,” the statement added.

“The prisoners were released according to the program of the group release from the prisons of Baghdad, Hilla, Diyala, Basra, Nassiriya, Muthana, Badosh, Sosa and Chanchman,” the statement concluded.
