Formation of Committee after meeting of Iraq’s Political Leaders won’t lead to positive results

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A member of al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by Iyad Allawi, has said on Sunday that the formation of committees, as result to the meeting of the Leaders of Political Parties at the residence of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, without taking a decisive decision, “won’t lead for positive results, as we have always noticed through following up the Iraqi politics.”   “Despite my reservation against the policy of forming committees, that usually end without results, as we have been used to through watching Iraqi politics, we hope that the Committee, formed by the Saturday meeting would push forward the relations between al-Iraqiya Coalition and the State of Law Coalition,” Shakir Kitab told IraqiNews.com news agency.   “I can evaluate the meeting of the said Leaders with  having achieved middle decisions, whilst we have hoped to see bigger relations, but our hopes were not achieved, because, as far as I know, the previous negotiating committees would resume their previous activity in the present phase, and I consider the formation of any new committee, without granting it decisive decision-making authorities, won’t lead to any result,” Kitab said.   He expressed fear from “the increase in the number of committees, result of which would be waste of time, thus broadening the catastrophe,” pointing out that “it was supposed that the meeting of the Leaders would take decisive measures and won’t change into formation of committees.”   “Had the Leaders been unable to take a clear decision and to face matters in a direct manner, as well as striving to achieve solutions for them?” Kitab asked.   Noteworthy is that a meeting was held, under patronage of Iraq’s President, Jalal Talabani, attended by Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, al-Iraqiya Leader, Iyad Allawi, Parliament Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, as well as the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Mid’hat al-Mahmoud, the Chairman of the National Coalition, Ibrahim al-Jaafary, Representative of Kurdistan Region, Roz Nouri Shawes, Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, along with Vice-Presidents, Deputy Prime-Ministers and Parliament members.   President Talabani told a news conference after the meeting that “Leaders of the Political Blocs have agreed on the activation of the role of the Special Committee, formed to look into the articles of the Arbil Agreement,” adding that “agreement had been reached to take a united position towards the continuation or ending the presence of the American troops in Iraq, or else to keep small units instead, within two weeks.”   Talabani has explained that the discussions took place “within an atmosphere of frankness and fraternity, including the American military presence in the country, the issue of Arbil Agreement and its practicing,” adding that agreement had been reached to hold another session within two weeks from now, to “follow up the results of the said Committee’s activity and its decisions, as regards to the implementation of the previous agreements.” SKH (TF)/SR 702
