Forming National Security Council in Kurdistan contradicts constitution, says Shahmani

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Member of the Security and Defense Parliamentary Committee MP Adnan al-Shahmani criticized the “step taken by Kurdistan Region over forming the National Security Council in the Region which would be separated from the Central Government.”

Speaking to Iraqi News, he said Wednesday “Forming a security department in the Region violates the constitution,” noting that “Any legal step taken in the country should be in harmony with the policy of the Central Government, Parliament and the Constitution.”

“This step is contradicting with the Constitution and the authorities of the Region,” he added, stressing that “Authorities of the Region are not clear because the Constitution granted limited authorities for the President of the Region.”
