Ghurabi: Ahrar bloc not to vote on increasing number of IHEC board

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The member of the Parliamentary Regions and Provinces Committee, Iqbal al-Ghurabi, stated “Al-Ahrar bloc will not let the Iraqi people down by voting on the increase of the numbers of the board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission to be fifteen and make it loses its independence.”

In a press statement received by IraqiNews.com on Tuesday, she said “Our bloc and some other national blocs will not vote for the increase of the number of the Commissioners of the IHEC,” noting that “We will vote on nine Commissioners only.”

“There are some political blocs that want to keep Iraq without elections and services,” she added.

“The increase of the number of the Commissioners is based on a personal and partisan basis and it cannot be done without endorsing a law draft by the parliament,” she concluded.
