Haji: Parliament Chairmanship stresses speeding up conducting Kirkuk PC elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Mahdi Haji, of the Kurdistani Alliance confirmed that “The Parliament Chairmanship stressed, during its meeting with the Committees representing Kirkuk main communities, the necessity of speeding up conducting Kirkuk Provincial Council elections.

In a press conference Haji mentioned that “The meeting resulted in identifying end of current September as the deadline to submit a proposal over the mechanism to conduct Kirkuk PC elections to the parliament to be endorsed to prepare for the elections in the province.”

“Some points were disputed in the meeting including the mechanism of dividing the authority among the main communities in the province in addition the Christian Community as well as the mechanism of the performance of the Independent High Electoral Commission in the province and other issues that will be settled later,” he added.

“The Committees will continue their meetings to reach agreement over the disputes to prepare for the elections and to implement Article 140 of the constitution over the disputed areas,” he concluded.
