IAF realizes progress in Salah el-Din, Diala, Anbar – MP

IAF-Elections BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: MP from the Iraqi Accord Front (IAF), Nassier al-Aani, on Monday said that the first readings indicate that the IAF realized progress in Salah el-Din, Diala, and Anbar provinces in the local elections, which were held on Saturday, according to a statement released by the Islamic party. “The IAF is leading in Salah el-Din, Diala ,and Anbar and ranks 3rd in Babel, Basra after Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon and the Iraqi National List (INL),” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “There are an encouraging percentage of Sunnis who will have seats in the Baghdad provincial council,” al-Aani said, noting that this percentage will affect the political decision and will encourage the Sunni to integrate into the political life. The IAF has 27 seats out of 275-seat parliament. The IAF is a political coalition established on October 26, 2005. It is currently composed of two parties – Vice President Tareq al-Hashimi’s Iraqi Islamic Party (IIP) and the IAF leader Adnan al-Dulaimi’s Iraq People’s Congress (IPC) after the withdrawal of Khalaf al-Alyan’s National Dialogue Council (NDC) and the Independent Arab Bloc following the resignation of Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani. Over 15 million voters participated in the Saturday’s election, according to the IHEC. SH (S)/SR 1
