Iranian forces withdraw from Fakka oilfield – Missan governor

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: Missan governor announced on Wednesday the withdrawal of Iranian forces from the Fakka oilfield as a result of the diplomatic efforts exerted by the Iraqi government. “The diplomatic efforts exerted by the Iraqi government, mainly the visit of Iranian foreign minister and his meetings with Iraqi officials, led to the withdrawal of Iranian forces from the Fakka oilfield,” Engineer Mohammad Shayaa al-Sudani told IraqiNews.com news agency. “We have agreed with the Iranian side to activate the joint committees on the demarcation of borders,” he noted. Al-Iraqia satellite television, in a Urgent, quoted Spokesman for the Iraqi government, Ali al-Dabbagh, as saying that the Iranian forces withdrew from the Fakka oilfield. An Iranian force raided the Fakka oil well in the province of Missan on December 18, 2009 and planted an Iranian flag there. The incident caused tension between the two countries as the Iraqi government urged Iran to withdraw its troops immediately. SH (P) 3
