Iraq discontent towards US suspicions over arming Syria, says Maliki

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Government expressed its discontent towards some US sides attempts to arouse suspicions over the Iraqi stance towards the Syrian crisis.

The Iraqi Premier Nouri al-Maliki expressed the Iraqi discontent while a phone call with the US Vice-President Joe Biden on Friday.

A statement by the Iraqi Premier’s office cited “Maliki reiterated the Iraqi stance which calls for a political settlement for the Syrian crisis and its objection for armament of either side in Syria.”

The statement mentioned “Maliki and Biden exchanged points of view over the regional issues as well as means of developing Iraqi – US bilateral relations.”

“The US VP expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Iraqi Government to settle the internal disputes, especially the recent oil agreement concluded between the Central Government and Kurdistan Regional Government and highlighted the Iraqi commitment towards its agreement with the UN over evacuating Ashraf Camp from the elements of Mujahedeen-e-Khalq,” the statement concluded.
