Iraq, Iran reach agreement over navigation in Shatt al-Arab River according to 1975 Agreement

Basra (IraqiNews.com) The Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari announced that there are talks being held with Iran concerning the Shatt al-Arab river to facilitate the navigation there according to the agreement of 1975 that was signed between the two countries.

In a press conference he held jointly with Basra Governor on past Thursday in the province, Zebari said “The goal behind the visit is to monitor on the ground, the pending issues over the borders between Iraq and Kuwait, noting “Iraq is looking forward to enhance the trade exchange between both countries.”

“Iraq is experiencing important phase in its relations with Iran where there are files need to be settled concerning the riparian borders at Shatt al-Arab, he added pointing out “The Iranian side understands the situation of the riparian borders with Iraq.”

“As for the mutual oil wells between Iraq and Kuwait, Zebari clarified “There is a Memorandum of Understanding between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti Oil Ministries and both sides are making contacts to reach an agreement over the mutual oil wells,” the FM concluded.
