Iraq-Kuwait Committee convenes to settle suspended dossiers on Sunday

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – The Iraqi-Kuwaiti Committee is scheduled to convene in Kuwait on Sunday to discuss the suspended dossiers between the two neighboring countries, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported.   Al-Watan newspaper quoted Iraq’s Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary, Labid Abbawi, as saying the meetings of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti committee to settle the suspended dossiers would convene today (Sunday), adding that the Iraqi Foreign Ministry was striving during the meetings to expand Iraq’s naval outlet on the Arab Gulf.   The dossier of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti Relations comprises a large number of suspended issues, most outstanding of is the issue of compensations Iraq is paying due to its invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and Kuwait’s position towards Iraq’s exclusion from the UN Charter’s 7 th Article, as well as the demarcation of borders and the issue of the remains of the lost Kuwaitis.   Abbawi said that Iraq ’s Foreign Minister, Hoshiar Zibary and a number of other ministers and undersecretaries would discuss all the suspended issues and those related to the problem of debts, borders and the humanitarian question, the problem of the remains of the lost Kuwaitis, properties, joint oil wells and the problem with the Kuwaiti Airlines, as well as other issues.   Abbawi expressed hope that the Committee, assigned by the Iraqi Council of Ministers, would reach through direct and bilateral discussions with the Kuwaiti side for special agreements to settle all the said issues, or at least to “lay a road-map to settle them.”   The U.S. Vice-President, Joe Biden, had told the UN Security Council’s session on 15/12/2010 that the Council had abolished the sanctions, issued against Iraq after its invasion of Kuwait in 1990.   RT / SKH 810
