Iraq-s National Coalition committed to all accords concluded with other political blocs, MP says.

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – Iraq’s National Coalition, led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, is committed to all accords concluded with other political blocs, its Legislature Ali al-Shilah said on Sunday.   Shilah told IraqiNews.com news agency that al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by its Leader Iyad Allawi, had announced his rejection to occupy the post of the proposed National Council for Strategic Policies (NCSP).   “Brothers in al-Iraqiya Coalition had announced that Dr. Iyad Allawi did not want the post of NCSP’s Chairman,” Shilah said, adding: “We, on our part, repeat our commitment towards all accords we had concluded with other partners in the political activity.”   He said that his Coalition “is committed to such accords, unless the other party cancels part of those accords and requests us to cancel that part.”   “We act positively with all proposals presented by our brothers in al-Iraqiya Coalition,” Shilah stressed.   The spokeswoman of al-Iraqiya Coalition, Maysound al-Damaloujy, had stated last Thursday that her Coalition’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, had cancelled his decision to lead the NCSP, complaining that “the tactic of ‘postponement’ does not suit him or a bloc, as large as al-Iraqiya.”   Damaloujy said that her Coalition would keep its positions in some cabinet ministries, “in order to present services for the Iraqi citizens, whilst a media source in al-Iraqiya told IraqiNews.com that “the said position by the Chief of al-Iraqiya to abandon his proposed post in NCSP had been officially announced.”   The NCSP’s draft-law includes articles “granting its chairman similar rights, privileges and personal position of the prime minister, along with granting the chairman to appoint anybody to act on his behalf, in the event of his absence.   It also grants him authority to invite any leading official to attend the NCSP’s meetings, including the Chairman of the Judicial Council, the Chairman of the Federal Court, ministers, Army Commanders, etc.   FT / SKH 303
