Iraqi-British Ministerial Commercial Council holds its 2nd sessionBaghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari met on November 25, 2013, at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, William Hague British Foreign Secretary, and Hugh Robertson, the Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by IraqiNews.com cited “The two sides reviewed the Iraqi-British relations and agenda of the second session of the Iraqi-British Ministerial Council to strengthen the bilateral relations in various fields, in addition to discussing developments of the political process and the security situation in the country.”

“The Foreign Minister welcomed the international efforts of Britain and the ( 5 +1 ) Group to implement the recent preliminary nuclear deal with Iran, which will help to strengthen process of construction , security and stability for all peoples of the region,” the statement continued.

“The British side welcomed the improvement in Iraq’s relations with the neighboring countries, and praised the remarkable progress in the relations between Iraq and Kuwait, and between Iraq and Turkey,” the statement added.

“The two sides also exchanged views on the Syrian crisis and the current talks to reach a binding date for holding the Geneva 2 Conference on Peace in Syria.

The meeting was attended by Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and Iraq’s Ambassador to Britain,” the statement concluded.
