Iraqi Kurdistan’s two ruling parties to discuss opposition’s decision to boycott negotiations

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The two ruling parties in north Iraq ’s Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are scheduled to meet soon to take a joint attitude towards the decision of the Kurdish opposition to suspend negotiations aimed to settle the political crisis in the Region, a KDP Media spokesman said on Sunday.   “The Political Bureaus of the KDP and the PUK are scheduled   to meet in the forthcoming few days to discuss significant issues, including the position towards the opposition parties and to take joint decisions towards the general conditions in the Region,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency.   The Kurdish opposition parties have announced last week a decision to suspend participation in the negotiations, aimed at the settlement of the political crisis, pointing out that the authorities have not taken any measures against the elements, who opened fire on demonstrators in north Iraq’s Sulaimaniya city on Feb. 17 th last, that killed and injured several people.   The PUK is lead by Iraq ’s President, Jalal Talabani, and the KDP is led by Kurdistan President, Massoud Barzani, whilst the Kurdish opposition consists of the Goran (Change) Party, the Kurdistan Islamic Union and the Kurdish Islamic Group.   SKH (IT) 473
