Iraqiya bloc has “reserved” stand on regions question – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqiya bloc MP Azhar al-Sheikhli said that its bloc is “reserved” on the question of establishing regions, pointing that the calls were just pressure papers against the government to grant greater privileges to the provinces. Shaikhli told IraqiNews.com that “some support the establishment of the  regions as a reaction of the stands taken towards these provinces or lack of funds”. She added “we are not against federalism, but there are many questions on their implementation process”. “Iraqiya bloc has its reasonable stand on the regions question, because it is not in the interest of the state to distract attention on important issues at this time”, she confirmed. Salahuddin provincial council  voted lately with 20 votes, out of 28, for the establishment “an independent region within unified Iraq”. The main reasons for adopting such stand was the central government negligence and the recent arrests against the people of the province. She warned that the coming regions shall not be like Kurdistan, because the circumstances are different. Sheikhli expressed hope that Iraqiya bloc will present suitable solution for all with more prudence. RM (TI) Number of Reads:54
