Iraq’s cabinet orders cancellation of rational card as document for official measures

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Secretariat-General for Iraq‘s Council of Ministers has order all cabinet ministries not to request citizens to present the rational card as part of the official documents needed to carry out their applications addressed to different government offices, an official source said on Monday.. “The Council of Minister’s Secretariat-General has instructed all ministries not to demand the rational card as a “an official document” in their applications to the ministries and other government offices, the official source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Noteworthy is that Iraqi ministries and official departments had been demanding citizens to show their official documents, represented by the civil affairs identity, the Iraqi nationality certificate and the rational card, as well as other documents, when they applied for any decision by those offices. The rational card was issued during Iraq‘s former ruling Baath regime, after its agreement to supply all Iraqi citizens with necessary foodstuff, as part of its oil-for-food deal with the United Nations, when the latter imposed an economic siege on the country, following its occupation of neighboring Kuwait in the 1990s.
