Iraq’s Foreign Minister discusses with US Ambassador activation of Strategic Treaty between both countries

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s Foreign Minister, Hoshiar Zibary, has discussed with the US Ambassador to Baghdad, James Jeffery, the activation of the Strategic Treaty between both countries after the withdrawal of the American Forces from Iraq at the end of the current year, a Foreign Ministry statement reported on Tuesday. “Foreign Minister Zibary has conferred with the US Ambassador to Baghdad, James Jeffery, on the Iraqi-American relations after the withdrawal of the American Forces from Iraq at the end of the current year, along with plans and programs of both governments to activate the Strategic Treaty and the activation of joint coordination committees for the political and diplomatic cooperation, energy, trade, services, education, cultural exchange and judicial cooperation between both countries,” the statement stressed. It added that the meeting had also discussed “the organization of the US Embassy and Consulates with the Iraqi government, during the transitional phase, along with preparations for the bilateral meetings between both sides and the Iraqi Prime Minister’s scheduled visit for Washington. According to the Treaty, signed between Iraq and the United States in 2008, the US Forces are scheduled to leave Iraq by the end of December next. SKH (PT)106
