Iraq’s National Alliance insists on 80% votes to select its candidate for PM post

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq’s National Alliance has announced on Monday its persistence to achieve an 80 percent vote in the Parliament to nominate its candidate for the new prime minister’s post, reiterating that such a percentage would prove that the candidate is “accepted on pan-national level.” “80% of the votes expresses the fact that the National Alliance‘s candidate will be accepted on the pan-national level. Accordingly, our Alliance insists on this percentage, because it shall represent the highest majority, whilst we insist to go to the Parliament with as single candidate only,” the National Alliance‘s Media Director, Humam Hammoudi told IraqiNews.com. Commenting on the meeting of the National Alliance at the residence of the Chairman of the National Congress, Ahmed al-Chalabi last Sunday, Hammoudi said, “The meeting was concentrated to discuss future steps, to be followed by the State of Law bloc, led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other national blocs.” He did not elaborate.
