Iraq’s Representative in Arab League hails Egyptian people:

CAIRO / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s Permanent Representative in the Arab League, Qais al-Azzawi, has hailed the Egyptian people, who he said “have managed to lead their revolution to impose their will,” reterating that “there is no intention to change the time or venue of the Arab Summit, scheduled to convene in Baghdad next March.” “Iraq hails the Egyptian people, who led their revolution very cautiously during the past three weeks to impose their will, an unprecidented incident, because the revolution was led by the Egyptian youth and not the parties, and secondly because they acted in a complete civilian and inviolent means to achieve their demands,” Azzawil told IraqiNews.com news agency on Saturday. As regards to the headquarters of the Arab League, situated in Cairo’s Al-Tahrir (Liberation) Square and possibility to be exposed for damage, Azzawi said: “The nature of events that took place in Al-Tahrir Square, one of the largest squares in Cairo, where the Arab League‘s headquarters exits, have pushed us, being the representives of Iraq in the Arab League to call on other representatives to meet inside the office Iraq‘s Representation.” “We also called the Arab League‘s Secretary General, the Assistant Secretary General, who all responded to our call in an unprecidented meeting of the Arab League in a place, other than its official headquarters, where we discussed some issues, hoping that the forthcoming meeting would be held in the Arab League‘s headquarters,” he said. Speaking about the impact of Egypt’s incidents on holding the Arab Summit in its scheduled venue in Baghdad, Azzawi said: “The Arab Summit, scheduled to convene in Baghdad on March 23rd, the Arab League‘s Secretary General had replied this question, who said during his recent visit to Baghdad that Iraqis have succeded to prepare all necessary prerequisites to hold the Summit in its scheduled venue.” “The last Arab League team’s visit to Baghdad during he period of the Egyptian protests had witten a very encouraging report for the achievements of the Supreme Committee to holld the Summit, under chairmanship of Iraq‘s Foreign Minister, Hoshiar Zibary, and there isn’t any Arab country, who demanded to postpone the Summit or change its venue, and there is a common decision by all Arab states to hold the Summit in its scheduled time in Baghdad,” he said. Replying a question about possibility to transfer the Arab League‘s headquarters to another country, Azzawi said: “The Arab policy supports keeping the Arab League in Cairo, because of the fact that the Egyptian people represent one-quarter of the Arab Nation, a part from Egypt’s Arab, Regional and International bulk..so, there is no justification for moving the Arab League‘s headquarters to any other place.” IT / SKH 259
