IS demands Electricity Minister to resign

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A source from the Iraqiya Slate (IS) revealed that an administrative political committee was formed inside the slate to choose a replacement for the head of the Iraqiya parliamentary bloc Salman al-Jumaili, “for causing the fragmentation of the slate,” and decided to ask the Minister of Electricity Abdul Kareem Aftan the candidate for IS “to resign at the end of this May.”

The source told Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) that “The last meeting of the IS, held at the residence of the Finance Minister and a leader of the list Rafi al-Esawi discussed three main issues to provide a summary of the latest developments in the political situation, what had been reached by the slate with the Kurdistani Alliance and the Sadr Trend, while the second issue which took the large space of the meeting time, was the parliamentary performance and commitment of IS members to attending the meetings of Parliament.”

He added that “The second issue of debate witnessed the altercations of words between the head of the IS parliamentary bloc Salman al-Jumaili and IS members about his failure in heading the bloc and he was the main reason for the fragmentation of IS and that can occur in the near future.”

The source pointed out that “The IS’ MPs have threatened if the leaders of IS insisted that Jumaili remains in the presidency of the bloc due to their narrow personal interests, they will withdraw and form a mass of independent MPs and the four heads will remain in the bloc with Jumaili in the end,” noting that “All MPs agreed to exempt Jumaili from the presidency of the bloc.”

The source also mentioned that “They also agreed to form a political body to manage the bloc to be composed of the MPs [Alaa Makki, Ziyad al-Tharib, Hamza al-Kartani, Karim al-Jubouri and Ismail Ghazi].”
