JFO denounces jailing journalist in Sulaimaniya

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Journalistic Freedom Observatory (JFO) on Saturday denounced the verdict issued by a court in Sulaimaniya to jail journalist Shawan Dawodi, the editor in chief of Hawal newspaper, for one month in addition to imposing a fine on him, according to a release issued by the JFO. “Dawodi was tried according to a petition that was filed in 2004, as he published a series of articles demanding reforming the judiciary system in Sulaimaniya,” said the release that was received by IraqiNews.com. “The JFO considers this verdict unfair, and demands that Dawodi be released immediately, as the fine of 300 thousand Iraqi diners is enough in this regard,” it added.
