Ki-moon congratulates Iraqis on successful PCs elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon congratulated the people of Iraq on their participation in the country’s Provincial Councils elections.

A statement by Ki-moon’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited “Ki-moon congratulates the Iraqi people for the successful of the PCs elections, assuring that by exercising their constitutional right to vote, the Iraqi people had reaffirmed their desire for democracy.”

“Ki-moon praised the courage and determination of the Iraqis who participated in the elections in spite of the thwarted attempts to disrupt the electoral process through a vicious campaign of assassinations of candidates, threats to electoral staff and terrorist attacks in the period preceding the vote,” the statement added.

“He also praised the efforts of the Independent High Electoral Commission in holding the elections, calling it hold the elections in the remaining governments without delay and in a professional manner,” the statement pointed out.”

“He urged patience for all political stakeholders awaiting the final results of the poll and encouraged them “to continue cooperating with al Iraqi electoral institutions throughout the rest of the electoral process,” the statement concluded.
