Kurdistan Alliance shocked with Parliament attack

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Northern Iraq’s Kurdistan Alliance has expressed surprise towards a booby-trapped car being snuck into west Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, calling for an investigation to uncover “those responsible” among the security bodies inside the Green Zone, according to a statement made by the Alliance and received by IraqiNews.com news agency on Tuesday. “At 4:45 p.m.on Monday, at the same time that Parliament members were leaving the Parliament building, a booby-trapped car blew up in the legislatures’ parking lot, in front of the building of the Council of Ministers’ Secretariat-General.Our  colleague, the Official Spokesman of the Kurdistan Alliance, Moayad Tayib, was wounded in the blast,” the statement reported. “We have the right to ask: How was the car snuck into the fortified Green Zone, despite intensive inspection measures and the existance of security checkpoints,” the statement questioned. The government should “revise  its security measures and avoid any aggressive elements being snuck into such locations,” the statement urged. Responsible bodies must “carry out a delicate investigation, form a Parliament committee for the same purpose, and announce the results of the investigation.The fate of this report cannot be the same as invesitations into previous similar incidents that took place inside the Parliament’s building in the Green Zone.This fact was overlooked due to political considerations,” the Alliance’s statement noted. The building of the Iraqi Parliament had been the target of an attack on Monday evening, during the questioning of Baghdad’s Lord-Mayor.Legislatures were spotted leaving the session, which led, according the Baghdad Operations Command’s spokesman, to the death one person and wounding of 2 others.Media and Parliament sources however, pointed out that the attack had been caused by a mortar shell that fell close to the building, wounding the Legislature for the Kurdistan Alliance, Moayad Tayib. Earlier, a member of the Iraqi Islamic Party accused Baghdad’s Operation Command of using diversion tactics to divert attention from the initial attack on the Iraqi Parliament. SKH (TR)/SR 306
