Kurdistan gov’t calls to settle problems between Turkey – PKK

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: North Iraq Kurdistan Region’s government has called on Saturday for the settlement of problems between the Turkish government and the anti-Ankara Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) through peaceful means, following the killing of 43 Kurdish civilians from Southern Turkey last Thursday. The statement, a copy of which was received by IraqiNews.com news agency on Saturday, pointed out that “the Turkish warplanes had launched an assault on southern Turkey‘s Shirnakh Province, killing and wounding a number of Kurdish citizens”. “The Kurdistan government, whilst expressing anxiety towards such a regretful catastrophe, calls for the treatment of problems through peaceful means, dialogue and understanding, in order to avoid further bloodshed of citizens and for the achievement of stability in the Region,” the statement noted. The said attack took place on Thursday morning in southeast Turkey‘s Shirnakh Province, targeted against a group of young men, working in trade across the Iraqi-Turkish borders. The attack left 43 Kurdish civilians dead and created a wave of anger in the Region, where hundreds of citizens in Kurdistan cities of Arbil and Sulaimaniya have organized demonstrations condemning the attack.
