Kurdistan part of Iraq, govt. has to intervene against its shelling – spokesman

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: A Kurdish peshmerga forces spokesman called on the Iraqi government on Friday to should its responsibilities in accordance with the constitution and press the Iranian and Turkish governments to stop shelling border areas in Kurdistan region, which is part of Iraqi territories. “It is incumbent on the Iraqi government to protect border areas within the Iraqi Kurdistan provinces that come under shelling on the grounds that these areas are the borders of the federal state of Iraq,” al-Yawir told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Turkish and Iranian military shell Iraqi border areas occasionally within the Kurdish provinces of Arbil, Sulaimaniya and Duhuk under the pretext of targeting strongholds of Kurdish factions opposing Tehran and Ankara.
