Kurdistan urges EU to send heavy weapons and not fall under Baghdad’s pressure

Kurdistan (IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council, Masrour Al-Barzani called the Council of the European Union to support Kurdistan with heavy weapons and to not fall under the pressure from the Iraqi central government.

In his speech during the session of the European Parliament, Barzani said, “Kurdistan is fighting the terrorism of ISIS, and while the whole world agreed that ISIS is a threat upon all of us and doesn’t recognize the borders between the countries, the European Union must not fall under the pressure of the Iraqi central government. The people of Sinjar went through an inhumane situation; thousands have been killed and women were kept as captives.”

“Baghdad is not going to help us even though ISIS has caused hundreds of thousands of civilians to leave their homes after an inhumane catastrophe. We need the European Union to send us heavy weapons and gear instead of small arms and light weapons.”

Barzani also thanked the United States and its allies in the European Union for conducting air strikes in Kurdistan which saved thousands of lives in the region.
