Kuwait vows to release Iraqi detainees – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Kuwaiti authorities vowed to release Iraqi prisoners in Kuwait, an Iraqi lawmaker said on Tuesday. “The visit paid by a delegation of the Iraqi parliament to Kuwait aimed to boost relations and to prove good wills between both sides,” Arshad al-Salehi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The Kuwaiti authorities promised to fulfill Iraqi community members’ demand to free Iraqi prisoners in the country and to ease Iraqis’ entry to Kuwait,” he explained. “The visit came as an expression of friendly relations between the two countries,” he continued. Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Al-Nujeifi had said Saturday that his visit to Kuwait signals the start of a new era of close and steadily growing bilateral relations. For his part, Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi welcomed the Iraq delegation. “I Welcome Nujeifi and all Iraqi delegation members. This visit reflects the historic relations between Kuwait and Iraq,” Al-Kharafi said. “Despite the difficult periods which these relations underwent, the wisdom of Kuwaiti and Iraqi leaderships has lead to the formation of a committee, including the foreign ministers of the two countries, to mull all the pending issues”.   SH (TS)/SR 531
