Larijany: “Energy most significant aspect for Iraq-Iran cooperation.”

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Chairman of the Iranian Islmaic Shoura Council, Ali Larijany, has said on Tuesday that the energy sector was the main aspect for expanding cooperation between Iran and Iraq , according to the Iranian semi-official Mehr News Agency.   “The joint investments in joint oil fields and the implementation of joint projects in the energy sector, are considered the most significant aspects for expanding cooperation between Iran and Iraq,” Mehr quoted Larijany as saying, during his reception of Iraq’s visiting Oil Minister, Abdul-Karim Lueiby, in Tehran on Tuesday.   Larijany said that “ Iran , government and people, are exerting utmost efforts to support advancing democracy and helping to settle Iraq ’s economic problems.”   “Along with the current efforts, there are efforts now to improve joint cooperation in different fields, that must be used to serve the interests of both peoples,” he added.   The Agency quoted Larijany as having expressed “satisfaction for the new agreements, concluded between both countries in the oil field,” calling for the implementation of those agreements in the nearest possible time.   “The Iranian technical and engineering companies are prepared to act in different construction, economic and industrial fields, along with Iraq ’s reconstruction and to help it solve its problems,” Larijani said.   On his part, Iraq ’s Oil Minister Abdul-Karim lueby pointed out to the signing of an agreement between the two countries to stretch a pipeline to supply gas from Iran ’s Asloya terminal to Syria , across Iraq , pointing out that “this strategic agreement shall represent an important development in energy field in the whole region.”   SKH (RT)
