Legislature calls on Iraq’s PM to step up his Cabinet’s trimming

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A legislature from al-Iraqiya bloc has said on Saturday that different political leaders have reached an agreement with regards to the trimming up of the Cabinet, calling on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to help deal with the agreement.   “All Parliament members and politicians support the proposal to trim down the government. An ideal solution would be for the Prime Minister to attend a Parliament session and announce his support for the trimming down of his cabinet,” Othman al-Juheishy told IraqiNews.com news agency.   Juheishy said that such a step “could lead to other differences, in the event of the absence of unselfishness. Unless there would be the preference of the people’s interest on the personal interest, there won’t be any seriousness in this respect.”   He said that the current cabinet is comprised 46 ministries, including 15 ministries of state, most of which do not do anything, claiming that many ministers are no more than an office of benefits and petty cash.    “The change from the logic of talk to the logic of action is the best solution, along with the presence of a genuine step by the leaders of political blocs and the Prime Minister towards that,” Juheishy said, calling on “every bloc to abolish some of the ministries.”   Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has stated recently that the issue of the cabinet’s trimming had become an “urgent necessity.”   SKH (TR)/SR 755
