Maliki concerned over suspected corruption in armament contracts with Russia, Czech, says Zamili

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Hakim al-Zamili, of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Commission revealed “The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, expressed his concerns over suspected corruption in the armament contracts concluded with Russia and Czech Republic.”

He stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “We heard that Maliki, during one of the meetings of the Iraqi National Alliance, expressed his concerns over suspected corruption in the armament contracts concluded with Russia and Czech Republic.”

“We also, as members of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Commission, expressed our concerns over this issue because some figures accompanied Maliki during his visit to these two countries are well known as businessmen,” he emphasized.

“According to our personal information, these figures visited these two countries before Maliki’s visit, which arouse our doubts over corruption involved in the armament contracts,” he added.

“We do not object the armament contracts that reinforce the Iraqi Army positively but we are against the suspected corruption in these contracts,” he concluded.

Earlier, Sadr criticized “The armament contracts made by the Government with Russia and Czech Republic,” describing these contracts as “Wasting the Iraq money.”

He called “The parliament to investigate these contracts.”

Earlier, the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, announced that his visit to Russia comes to make contracts for buying weapons for the Iraqi Army and to consolidate the military cooperation between the two countries.
