Maliki: “I can’t resent to resign, dismantle the government, if Parliament continues fighting it.”

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq ’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki has said on Wednesday that “he won’t resent to dismantle the government, proposed new elections and present his resignation, in the event that the current government continues to face attacks by the Parliament, which is supposed to help the ministries to succeed, not to fight them.”   “Being part of my authority as Prime Minister to demand the resignation of a Governor, in the event that he is proven negligent, to present a demand to dismantle the Parliament or the government, carry out new elections and present my resignation, if the Parliament insists to continue fighting the current government, whilst the Parliament should strive to help ministries succeed, not to fight them,” he said.   Speaking about the 100-day period he gave to his ministries to achieve their duties, Maliki said: “The 100-day period we gave was aimed to discover the potentials of the ministers to present services to the citizens, and this period might be extended to another 100-day period, if a certain minister had achieved a partial success, in order to grant him another chance.”   “We are on our way for success, because we have a specialized committee to observe the achievement of different ministries.. We shall register the achievement of each minister, including his successes or failures,” he said, adding that “if a minister fails to reform the framework of his ministry during the 100-day period, Iraq won’t bear responsibility for the failure of that minister.”   Maliki had announced on Feb. 27th, a 100-day period for all Iraqi ministries to improve their activity, services and put end to mistakes, and implement radical reforms serving the citizens.   Noteworthy is that Maliki’s news conference on Wednesday had been the third press conference he held since the announcement of his 100-day period, with the first conference, held on Feb. 28 and the second was held on April 28 th last.   SKH (FT)
