Maliki, political leaders discuss sequences of Syrian crisis on Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) PM Nouri al-Maliki assured that “The Iraqi Government has adopted a number of security and military procedures to suit the current situation in Syria.”

A statement by the office of the PM cited that “Maliki briefed the bloc’s leaders, whom he had invited for consultation meeting yesterday, about the developments in the region especially the Syrian crises and its consequences.”

The statement added that “The blocs’ leaders agreed to give the security situation the priority due to the unstable situations in the region.”

It mentioned that “The PM clarified that strengthening the border guards with additional forces in Rabia area on the Syrian borders came as a necessary action during this phase.”

The attendees of the meeting agreed that the federal government should practice its full security responsibility and emphasized the clarity of the constitution over this point since the borders security is among the responsibilities of the Federal Government, the statement mentioned, noting that “Some of the leaders of the Kurdish blocs called for more cooperation and coordination between Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government to promote the trust and avoid problems between the two sides.”

The statement pointed out that “The commander of the Iraqi Ground Forces General, Ali Ghaidan gave a clear image about the developments on the ground and the disputes that started due to deploying the border forces on the borders with Syria near Kurdistan Region,” stressing that General Ghaidan has “personally informed the specified authorities in the Kurdistan RegionG about the deployment of some Iraqi military units in the areas near the region on the Iraqi-Syrian borders.”
