Maliki’s visit to Kirkuk arouses negative reactions among Kurdish sides

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Khalid Shwani, of the Kurdistani Alliance confirmed that “The visit of the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, to Kirkuk and holding the meeting of the Council of Ministers in the province on last Tuesday arouses negative reactions among the Kurdish sides.”

He stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “Maliki’s visit has clear political dimension which resulted in negative reactions among the Kurds because Kirkuk has such importance for them.”

“Kirkuk is among the disputes areas according to the constitution and Maliki had to avoid tackling critical issues,” he concluded.

Earlier, a number of Kurdish MPs described Maliki’s visit to Kirkuk and holding the meeting of the Council of Ministers in the province as “Provocative,” while the Kurdish Ministers within the government boycotted the meeting.
