Maliki Will Not Be Pressurized, Two Analysts Say

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Two analysts believed that Premier Nouri Al-Maliki will not be pressurized under the 100-day period to submit concessions, because the responsibility lies with his ministers, parliament and local governments. Political analyst and civil activist Reben Rasoul told IraqiNews.com “I do not think that Maliki is under political pressures to submit the security nominations, because he is still clinging to the non-professionalism of the candidates.” “He is holding the security and defense ministries to administer the government as he likes and use them as a pressure card on other entities for more concessions in the coming stage,” he added. “The political situation in Iraq is complicated. Maliki is not under pressures to submit to any concessions. He believes he is strong and the best following the implementation of the Arbil agreement,” Rasoul elaborated. “I do not think that Dr. Ayad Alawi is serious in his threats to withdraw from the political process, because we heard it many times. Alawi boycotting the government will dismantle his coalition, because a number of his colleagues were met with some privileges in the new government. This is a matter that will be played by Maliki,” he elaborated.   “If Alawi withdraws, it will affect his popularity because he could not administer political movement and conflict,” Rasoul concluded. On the other side, political analysis Isam Al-Faili said that “Maliki was not the sole individual responsible for the 100-day period. His ministers are responsible, because he said from the first days that he will replace the minister or the official who did not offer something during this period.” “The important question in this period are the security ministries, where each entity shoulders the responsibility on the others,” he pointed out.  RM (TR)/SR 682
