Maliki’s visit to Egypt “not for political gain” – source

BAGHDAD / Iraqi News: A member of the State of Law Alliance, led by Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, has said today that the aim of Maliki’s visit to Egypt “was not to gain a political goal,” considering its motive as “aiming at obtaining the Arab League‘s support of Iraq.” Maliki’s visits to Egypt or a number of other states “did not take place to get a political support,” Ali al-Allaq said. He added that “his visits took place to strengthen Iraq‘s relations with Egypt and to open economic and political dossiers to gain support for Iraq in the Arab League.” “Egypt is an important state within the regional and international levels. Relations with it is considered a key for relations with other Arab states,” he said. Prime Minister Maliki has visited Jordan, where he met King Abdullah II in his second visit to a neighborly state after Syria. He visited Tehran on Monday, where he conferred with the Supreme Authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Khamanei. SKH/SR 1
