Meeting to discuss disagreement over forming support councils

MUTHANNA / IraqiNews.com: A delegation from the Muthanna province will meet on Wednesday with the National reconciliation authority in Baghdad to discuss the disagreement over forming the support councils in the province, the Muthanna governor said. “The delegation consists of two members of the Muthanna provincial council and two tribal chieftains as well as a representative of the Muthanna governor,” Ahmed Marzouk al-Salal told IraqiNews.com. “The governor has witnessed recently debates among tribal and official personalities on forming support councils,” he explained, noting that the meeting will be held at an invitation to discuss the disagreement over these councils. The Support Councils were established in a number of provinces; Anbar, Diala, Ninewa and Salah el-Din to fight armed groups, mainly al-Qaeda. Muthanna, 280 km south of Baghdad , is bordering Saudi Arabia . Its capital is Samawa. It was the first Iraqi province where security responsibilities were transferred from the Multi-National Force (MNF) to the Iraqis. On July 13, 2006 British, Australian, and Japanese forces handed over security responsibility for Muthanna province to Iraqi forces. Prior to 1976 it was part of the al-Diwaniya province.
