Meeting to understand reasons for Mehdi’s resignation

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Presidential Board declared today that the resignation request of first vice-president Adel Abdul Mehdi was received, but the president and his deputy will meet to discuss the reasons for such resignation.  “The president has not yet decided if he will accept or reject this request,” Naseer al-Ani added.   “His decision will not be made until the motivations behind Mehdi’s resignation are understood,” he added.  A leading member in the Higher Islamic Council Juma’ Al-Atwani announced earlier today to IraqiNews.com that Mehdi submitted his resignation upon the desire of the leadership of the Higher Islamic Council, pointing out that the council will submit a replacement.  RM (TS)/SR 392
