MP: Basra PC, LG connive with contractor close to Maliki

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP of Basra province, Hussein al-Mansouri, accused a number of Basra Provincial Council and Governorate members of “Having dubious relation with a contractor, who is among the relative of the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki in referring a lot of service projects to him despite having many companies which are more efficient than this contractor.”

Mansouri said to IraqiNews.com “The contractor named Abdullah al-Jubouri Aweis, has dominated most of the projects through Basra Provincial Council members.”

He added that “Basra suffers tragic situation but regrettably the local government including the province PC and the Governorate have no interest and do not enjoy the supervisory role to implement the appropriate projects,” rather they are interested in the contractor more than their concern in the province’s benefits.”

“It is shameful Basra floats on a sea of oil and suffers many failures in providing services and infrastructures. Also there is no intention to implement the grand projects despite Basra has received huge amounts of money from Petro-Dollar and from the budget allocated to Basra within the annual budget,” he noted.

Mansouri attributed “The failure in promoting the services situation to the insufficiency of Basra Provincial Council and the Governorate in managing the province properly in addition to the spread of financial and administrative corrosion.”
