Nineveh (IraqiNews) Nineveh MP, Hanin al-Qadu, called the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, to declare a state of emergency in the province for a month, in addition to appointing a military governor with broad powers.

Qadu said in a press statement that the security and economic situation in Nineveh Province makes him fully convinced that the best solution is that the Prime Minister announces a state of emergency for one month, as well as appointing a military governor and giving him the needed powers.

He also added that there are many serious files and the challenges in the Province, including the presence of PKK and the Turkish forces, in addition to the conflicts taking place in Nineveh Plain, IDPs problems, corruption, oil smuggling, dilapidated projects and reconstruction of destroyed areas.

Neither Nineveh Provincial Council nor the new governor will be able to deal with all these challenges effectively, Qadu further explained.
