MP criticizes violations in Ninewa, IHEC explains

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Lawmaker in the Iraqi Parliament and representative of Ninewa, Noraldin al-Hayiali, on Tuesday criticized what he described as “violations” practiced by some parties, in using illegal methods to manipulate the Iraqi people’s will during the upcoming election in the province. “Security forces in Ninewa protecting polling centers will consist of 75 percent Iraqi police and army, and 25 percent from the Peshmerga (Kurdish local guards) forces from the Kurdistan region,” al-Hayiali said in a press release that was received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Monday (Jan. 26) decided to add 25 thousand Kurdish voters who were not previously registered in Ninewa,” he added. For his part, the director of the IHEC’s office in Ninewa said “the 25 thousand new voters were added following a decision issued by the IHEC’s main office in Baghdad.” “Ninewa’s office explained this issue to media sources,” he proceeded. “We are an executive side only,” he noted. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. MH (S)/SR 1
