Mutleg, Kobler discuss tensions at protest squares

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Deputy Premier, Salih al-Mutleg, discussed with the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Martin Kobler, the elections file and the tensions at the protest squares.

A statement by Mutleg’s office cited on Monday “Mutleg received Kobler where both sides discussed the political situation and the conduct of the provincial elections and the irregularities accompanied the polling process.”

“Mutlg also discussed with the UN envoy, the demonstrations in Iraq where they stressed that the tensions happening at the protest squares is a result of the propaganda campaign that preceded the elections which incensed the street and provided an environment to the terrorists to carry out their crimes against the people,” the statement added.

“Mutleg called the UN mission in Iraq to practice its positive role and observe what is going on at the protest squares especially in Hawija district associated to Kirkuk province,” according to the statement.

“For his part, Kobler thanked Mutleg for his pro-calmness stance, emphasizing the need for self-control and to keep on the demonstrations peaceful,” the statement concluded.
