New Governor for Basra Province appointed

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: A new governor for southern Iraq’s Basra Province, Khalaf Abdul-Samad, has been elected by the Province’s Council on Tuesday, the semi-official al-Iraqiya TV Channel reported. “Khalf Abdul-Samad has won the Governor’s post, by scoring 19 out of 35 votes by Basra Province’s Council elections,” the TV Channel said. Basra’s former Governor, Dr. Shiltagh Abboud, had presented his resignation, following demonstrations that took place in the Province three weeks ago that demanded his resignation.   SKH (TP)/SR 635
