Nijaifi announces resignation of Sciences & Technology

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nijaifi assured that “Hawija events opened the door to great strife plaguing the country,” stressing that “This matter must be stopped.”

He said in a press conference that he made important contacts with Iraqi leaders, including the heads of the Iraqi National Alliance, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, and the President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, and many other politicians in addition to that we are in the process to contact Sayed Muqtada al-Sadr in order to take a clear stance towards the body that gave the order to target protesters in Hawija.”

Nijaifi said that “The minister of Science and Technology, also a leader in Mutahidoun list Abdul Karim al-Samarrai announced his resignation from his post as a minister of science and technology.”

He referred to “the step of sending a delegation from the security and defense parliamentary committee to Kirkuk for fact-finding mission on the background of the events of Hawija, which caused losing lives of dozens of protesters and security elements.”

The Speaker Nijaifi called the Iraqi Armed Forces “not to obey any orders to attack protesters or shooting them, also called on the Iraqi tribes to cease-fire and calm down the situation and defuse the crisis, and not to follow the scheme intended to drag the country into a civil war because this is the most dangerous case facing Iraq in its history.”
