Nijaifi expresses readiness to follow up with investigation of CBI’s activities

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, expressed his readiness to follow up with the “Detailed investigation over the activities of the Central Bank of Iraq since 2003,” noting that “This issue is dangerous because it deals with the economic situation of Iraq.”

A statement by Nijaifi’s office received by IraqiNews.com on Saturday cited “Nijaifi, at his office, discussed with the Governor of the CBI, Sinan al-Shibi, the policy and current activities of the CBI.”

“During the meeting, Nijaifi stressed on the results of the investigation conducted by the specified committee that comprises the Parliamentary Economic and Finance Committees and the head of the Financial Observation Department to investigate over the corruption issues in purchasing the foreign currencies and the relationship between the CBI and the private banks,” the statement added.

The statement quoted Nijaifi, as saying “We started the detailed investigation over the activities of the CBI and I will personally follow up with the Integrity Committee this investigation because this is a dangerous issue that is related to the economy of Iraq.”
