Ninewa governor rejects premier’s call to resign

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Ninewa governor refused on Tuesday the call made by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to resign. “The premier has to work to improve services, ration card and to fulfill the protestors’ demands,” Atheel al-Nujiefi told IraqiNews.com news agency, noting that “90% of these demands related to the federal government not my resignation.” “I assumed my post by winning 250,000 votes, the highest percentage in the provincial council elections in 2009, and I will leave my post through elections only,” he explained. Al-Maliki had called al-Nujiefi last Thursday to resign in response to protestors’ demands. SH (TP) 464
