Nusayif urges to activate current infrastructure of telecommunications

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Aliya Nusayif of the Iraqiya Hurra Bloc warned from wasting billions of Iraqi funds on initiating new infrastructure for telecommunications sector I Iraq instead of using the current available one.

In a press statement, she said Saturday “Some sides exert efforts to invite foreign companies to contract in order to construct new infrastructure for telecommunications in Iraq for political rather than for services reasons.”

“Regardless some sides’ attempts to control the telecommunications sector in Iraq, we should pay attention to the economic damage that would happen from wasting billions of US Dollars on building new infrastructure for telecommunications while the current one which was built by the former regime in 2002 with a capacity of 80 KV,” she stressed, noting that “We currently use only 3% of the current infrastructure of telecommunications.”

Nusayif emphasized necessity to control “the current infrastructure of telecommunications such as the International gate and main cables for international telecommunications by the government rather than by private companies,” calling the parliament to discuss the economic and security aspects of this issue.
