Premier to cancel partisan support councils

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Premier Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday decided to cancel any support council that is affiliated with any political party, considering such councils illegal, according to a release issued by al-Maliki’s office. “Tribal support councils are not a partisan project,” a release received by IraqiNews.com quoted al-Maliki as saying. “Those councils should not work for the interests of a certain party, but for the interests of the state and the public,” he said. He stressed cancelling “any council affiliated with any party.” “We should all work to construct a state of law and constitution,” he explained. “We want state institutions, the security apparatus, armed forces and tribes to work within the framework of the state, not under the command of any party or side,” he noted.
